LAWN CARE PROGRAM
Your lawn is like you – it needs food! Fertilizing provides your lawn with the correct amount of nutrients it needs. Your soil already has the natural nutrients; however, most soil types do not provide enough for the growing season. bioLawn provides you with a fertilizing program which is dependent on your lawn’s needs. The natural ingredients help build up your soil to promote the ideal growth for your turf.
Laboratory Soil Analysis
Testing your soil for nutrient and micro-nutrient levels is critically important in determining how to optimize the treatment of your property. After collecting soil samples at your property our laboratory conducts multiple tests to give us a picture of what’s going on with your soil. We will use the results to design the optimal nourishment for your lawn.
An additional nutrient supplement may be recommended based on the laboratory test results of your soil. Potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, and phosphorous (derived naturally from our organic seeding compost) are examples of possible soil deficiencies that may need correction.
We ensure your lawn is high in the nutrients necessary to help it through stressful conditions. This improves water retention at the root zone for drought resistance. We also address micro-nutrient deficiency from soil test in this application.
Our fertilizer programs also take into account the seasons. bioLawn is sensitive to the weather’s effects and we make changes to our products and schedules so your lawn is receiving exactly what it needs at the right time. Our standard program involves 5 applications spread between the following.
Naturally sustaining hot weather fertilization with spot treatment of broadleaf weeds and crabgrass control along driveways and sidewalks. High in organic matter to rebuild soil and retain moisture.
Balanced natural fertilization with spot treatment of broadleaf weeds and crabgrass control along driveways and sidewalks.
Balanced fertilization to winterize lawn and to promote early spring green-up.
bioLawn uses both pre-emergent and post-emergent weed controls. We place our pre-emergent crabgrass control down in early spring. Our product helps stop the seeds from germinating. Remember this is preventive only and works best in early spring.
Our post-emergent weed control is not organic but utilizes the proper organics program. We realize it is important to many homeowners to have a weed-free lawn, so we’ve developed a post-emergent program that minimizes the toxicity to your lawn. We’d love to use an all organic weed control; however, we have not found one that works 100%. Our methods use a “going green” or “proper organics” approach. We use the least toxic, yet effective weed control available to treat your lawn and limit treatments to spot-treating when it is practical to do so. In conjunction with mixing the product correctly, we minimize the amount of chemicals needed on your lawn.
This method is tricky! For a further explanation contact a representative to explain further. We’d also be more than happy to do an all-organic program of just pre-emergent weed control.
bioLawn uses both pre-emergent and post-emergent weed controls. We apply our pre-emergent crabgrass control in the early spring. This treatment stops crabgrass seeds right in the ground before they can get started. This is preventive and only works if done during the early spring application. We’d love to use an all organic weed control; however, despite looking, we have not found one that is effective.
We realize it is important to many homeowners to have a weed-free lawn, so we’ve developed a post-emergent program that minimizes toxicity. Our promise is to use the safest products available that will still deliver an effective result. We limit treatments to spot-treating whenever it is practical to do so and often can lower the rates needed by adding seed oil, vegetable oil, or molasses to minimize the amount of weed control needed on your lawn.
For more information, contact one of our service coordinators to discuss how we can meet your goals. Finding the balance between product safety and the level of weed control you desire is a benefit of our blended approach. We can also customize your program to be 100% organic. Just let us know your specific wishes and we can tailor the plan to meet the needs of your lawn!
Broadleaf Weed Control
Weed control is complimentary on each visit with our organic blend fertilization program. This application can be ordered as an additional service for those who need control without or separate from their planned fertilization. Re-entry time onto the lawn is generally 30-45 minutes after application or when dry. The product has a very low odor and is rain-fast after 20 minutes. Normal weeds will typically wilt within 48 hrs but some weeds may take up to 14 days for full control.
Our Early Spring fertilization application is a custom blend of granular organic fertilizer combined with our pre-emergent crabgrass preventer. Spot treatment of pre/post-emergent will also be included along the driveways, and walkways of your property where crabgrass is typically most prominent through the summer round.
Post-emergent Crabgrass Control is available only to new customers that signed up after the completion of the early spring round. A Late Fall Pre-emergent application is also available to customers with crabgrass issues who have signed up in the mid to late season. Please call with questions!
Creeping Charlie Control
Ground Ivy (aka Creeping Charlie) is one of the more difficult weeds to control – it is a season long project but we always win this battle. When you have this service we will treat it on every visit to your property plus at least one additional visit to be sure we get it out of your turf. Sometimes it may require additional trips – and that is included.
NOTE: We cannot treat ivy in your garden beds or under trees in mulch beds. The health of your other landscape plants takes priority in our program.
Iron Man Natural Weed Suppression
Weeds are managed naturally by using specially formulated macrobiotic nutrients that grass plants need but at a level that the most common weeds (dandelions, thistle, etc.) cannot tolerate. Weeds will turn black after application. Grass may darken but will return to normal or even improved color after using the nutrients.
